Research Associate I, Cropping Systems Agronomy

Position Summary:
Performs research activities and analysis; implements and evaluates research procedures and data. Records observations and measurements then reports results. Responsible for analyzing and preparing results for publication. Works under general supervision with a certain degree of creativity and latitude. May supervise junior research personnel.

Duties may include:

Provide technical support in planning and/or designing of scientific projects, studies, or applications
Plan and conduct research and analysis of scientific data
Interpret test results and comparing with determined standards and limits
Identify and evaluating scientific samples and determining need for further testing
Develop recommendations and/or providing solutions, standards, and protocol to a wide range of difficult problems
Plan, design, develop, monitor and/or evaluate portions of a scientific project, study, or application
Provide scientific evaluations/assessments
Research, implement, standardize, and evaluate new procedures
Maintain detailed records of results and prepares written reports acceptable to the Principal Investigator and funding agencies
Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in Plant Science, Agricultural Science, Ag Systems Management, Crop Science, Soil Science, or Environmental Science

Two years of post-bachelors research experience related to the domain of this position

Preferred Qualifications:

Masters degree in Plant Science, Agricultural Science, Crop Science, or Soil Science

Experiance with/in

Organizational and time management skills.
Keeping records of research data, summarizing research data, and managing and collecting data from field-based agronomic experiments or variety trials.
Developing and delivering scientific presentations to growers and other crop production clientele, and preparing journal articles or similar publications.
Good interpersonal and communication skills.
Supervising staff and students.
Troubleshooting problems and working effectively in a team setting.
Computer software and applications for word processing, email, and data organization
Working with small plot equipment or other farm machinery.
Sustained research productivity
Technical competence and technical writing skills.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:

May be required to work with toxic, volatile and corrosive chemicals and/or carcinogenic substances
May be required to work in adverse environmental conditions (dusty, hot, or cold conditions outdoors).
Ability to lift, carry or otherwise move objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
