Job Summary: Under general supervision serve as Front Desk personnel for the STEM Learning Center on the Taylorsville Campus. Aid students and visitors accessing STEM Learning services. Serve as center ambassador when facilitating assistance and manage STEM resource library. Multiple candidates may be hired from this posting.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Use best practices in assisting students with the services provided by STEM Learning.
  • Respond courteously and promptly to inquiries and provide front desk customer service.
  • Assist guests, staff, faculty and students with information and direction.
  • Acquire and demonstrate basic knowledge and skills in office work.
  • Communication skills: verbal, written, and listening skills.
  • Collaborate with SME students, faculty, and staff.
  • Attendance and punctuality will be monitored and is of high importance.
  • Employee will be given feedback as needed.
  • Professionalism and attention to detail.
  • Assist in operations of the STEM Learning department, including supporting staff and tutors.
  • Serve as department ambassador promoting STEM Learning services with students, faculty and staff.
  • Learn, manage and assist in the administration of TutorTrac and assist with TutorTrac data entry as assigned.
  • Assist in maintaining supply closets, overall cleanliness of the center and managing office needs. Do a regular check of office and outside area to ensure that furniture is properly arranged/maintained and unneeded equipment is properly stored.
  • Maintain professional atmosphere in Center and help keep it clean.
  • Assist with projects, or other needs of STEM Learning department, as well as running errands, as needed.
  • Close or open STEM Learning Center as needed.
  • Participate in Growth, Planning and Support (GPS) meetings with supervisor on regular schedule.

Minimum Qualifications: High school Diploma or GED equivalent
GPA 2.0Registered for 9.0 credit for Fall and Spring semestersRegistered for 6.0 credit hours for summer semester
Must have Work Study Award from SLCC


Preferred Qualifications: One (1) - Two (2) years in customer service or related field OrOne (1) - Two (2) years in office or front desk employment.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Professional in manner and appearance. Strong communication skills and customer service skills. Basic Microsoft Office knowledge. Able to work in loud, open, heavily populated area. Knowledge of general office procedures and methods. Trustworthy of confidential student records and student information. Ability to prioritize and organize tasks, and take initiative within established parameters. Ability to operate most office equipment. Maintain professional and positive attitude, ability to grow, adapt and take direction while working independently when necessary. Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College.Ability to work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.

Non-Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

Special Instructions: Flexibility to work 9AM to 9PM M-TH, 9AM to 3PM-F. Working 10-20 hours per week. Applicants must be eligible for federal Work Study.
