Part-Time Engineering Technology Intern, STEM and Business

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

The STEM and Business Department at North Shore Community College is seeking a proactive and enthusiastic Engineering Intern to join our Engineering and Industrial Technology Lab and support projects in Robotics, 3D Printing, CNC Machining, and more! This internship offers an exciting opportunity to work closely with experienced faculty and staff, gain hands-on experience, and contribute to the development of cutting-edge advanced manufacturing programs at our college.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Assist in the design, development, documentation and testing of robotic systems for educational purposes.
  2. Support 3D printing projects, including preparing models, setting up prints, and performing post-processing tasks.
  3. Operate and maintain CNC equipment, including setup, calibration, and quality control.
  4. Assist in developing comprehensive training materials to guide students in effectively using the laser engraver.
  5. Contribute to educational demonstrations and hands-on labs for students.
  6. Document and report on project progress, including test results and experiments.
  7. Collaborate with faculty and staff to address technical issues and develop solutions.
  8. Clean, organize, and maintain equipment, and laboratory spaces as needed.
  9. Attend lab meetings, promotional events, and open houses as required.
  10. Physically fit: ability to meet physical demands including reaching, bending, walking, standing for long hours, and performing repetitive work.
  11. Other tasks and duties related to development and optimization of the lab projects and safety procedures.


Job Requirements:
  • Pursuing a degree in Engineering or related technology fields.
  • Basic understanding of robotics principles.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills, communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Available to work in-person at the Lynn campus.
  • Candidates will be required to pass a CORI/SORI and/or National background check as a condition of employment.

PREFERENCES:
  • Hands-on experience with robotics kits or hobbyist robotics projects.
  • Previous experience with 3D printing and CAD modeling.
  • Understanding of CNC programming and machining techniques.
  • Knowledge of electronics and sensor integration.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.


Additional Information:
SALARY: $16.80 per hour. This is a non-benefited position.
