Senior Network Engineer, Information Systems

Non-Unit Professional position, 37.5 hours/week

Campus Location: Danvers but will require occasional travel to our Lynn

SALARY RANGE: Anticipated salary range $110,000.00 - $120,000.00. Actual salary is commensurate with experience and education. GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Network Engineer to join the college's IT team. The Network Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing and maintaining our organization's network infrastructure and will report to the Executive Director of Network Infrastructure, User and Media Services. This role requires a deep understanding of networking technologies, current and emerging security trends, excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team. The ideal candidate will be proactive, detail-oriented and passionate about ensuring the scalability, performance, stability, and security of our network environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Design, implement, and maintain the organization's network infrastructure, including local area networks (LANs), Storage Area Network (SAN), wide area networks (WANs and SDWAN), and wireless networks.
  2. Respond to network emergencies and serve as the escalation point for network related issues including those that occur outside of normal business hours.
  3. Stay up-to-date with the latest networking technologies and best practices and make recommendations for network improvements
  4. Manage backup software (VEAAM), our redundant backup devices and our Virtual Server environment (VMware).
  5. Work with IT and greater college community to ensure disaster recovery is included within all designs or improvements.
  6. Manage relationships with primary network vendors and work to obtain best costs for solutions.
  7. Configure, manage and upgrade network devices primarily routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers. Provide network architecture, security leadership and direction for the management of endpoint switches and our wireless infrastructure.
  8. Provide supervision for larger scale projects that require field technicians' involvement.
  9. Monitor network performance and troubleshoot network issues to ensure optimal uptime and performance. Oversee and configure our server and network monitoring & alert system (What's Up Gold).
  10. Provide support for Active directory and windows server farm.
  11. Implement and maintain network security measures including firewalls, intrusion detection systems and VPNs.
  12. Support highly segmented network (micro-segmentation) and apply zero trust concepts.
  13. Conduct regular security and inventory audits as well as implement security best practices to protect against unauthorized access and data breaches.
  14. Collaborate with various IT teams to integrate network infrastructure with other systems and applications.
  15. Document network configurations & procedures and troubleshooting steps for reference and training purposes.
  16. Provide technical support and guidance to end-users and other IT staff as needed.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Executive Director of Network Infrastructure, User and Media Services

Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, with at least 5 years' experience or an equivalent combination of certifications and relevant job-related experience.
  • Proven experience as a network administrator or similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of networking protocols and technologies, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, NAT, VLANs, and IP sub-netting.
  • Experience with network hardware and software from vendors such as Cisco/Meraki, Next Generation Firewalls (Fortinet preferred).
  • Hands-on experience with network monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
  • Familiarity with network security concepts and best practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CCNA, CCNP, CompTIA Network+) are a plus.
  • Candidates will be required to pass a CORI/SORI and/or National background check as a condition of employment.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • This position is based in Danvers but will require occasional travel to our Lynn campus.
  • The Network Administrator will need to work outside of normal business hours to perform maintenance or respond to network or security emergencies.
